Gov. Andy Beshear speaks on his future plans on the heels of 2024 election

Gov. Andy Beshear is keeping his priorities in Kentucky as he serves out the rest of his term, he said during his weekly Team Kentucky news conference Thursday, offering no clear indications of his stance on vying for a White House position in 2028.
When asked about what future holds for him, Beshear, whose second term will expire in 2027, said serving Kentuckians is his foremost mission.
“We’ll see what the future holds in the future, but right now, my only focus is on this job, is about making sure I continue to stand up for Kentuckians and all Americans, to ensure that their rights are respected,” he said.
The question alluded to Beshear being in the conversation to serve as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate at one point in her presidential campaign. While Harris ultimately tapped on Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, Beshear remained a steadfast supporter of her campaign.
He praised Harris’ efforts in her campaign at the news conference Tuesday, despite her loss to President-elect Donald Trump.
“Vice President Harris put together a good campaign in a short amount of time,” he said. “I’m disappointed that ultimately that effort came up short and for many of us who hope to see an end to anger politics.”
